Oh yeah that's part of a.......??

Hello. I found this at a 1900's home site but I don't think it is that old. It is cast, not magnetic, feels a bit heavy to be all Al, but is not brass or Cu. The holes are threaded for flush mount machine screws. There is no engraving or markings on it.

I am thinking maybe it went to something automotive or electrical.

Looks like a four way connector for shelving or a cage system.

I think it is some kind of stacking bracket. if you set the narrow "x" on top of square tubes then screwed it down then you could stack another cage on top without fasteners.
The thing that bothers me though; normally when you countersink a screw receiving hole it is to accept the head of the screw. WHY ARE THERE FULL THREADS ALL THE WAY UP TO THE COUNTERSINK? Still need more thinking on this.
