My dad and I hit one of our newer fields today. I was a bit apprehensive when we first stepped in because it hadn't had much rain on it. My dad found a point about 20 seconds into the field though. About 20-30 minutes later he found another one (forgot to get a pic of it) and then I walked up on a Paleo Stemmed Lance! We found several more busted lances and a bunch of pieces and parts. This sure beats being stuck at work, lol!

Not saying anybody is wrong just curious what makes it paleo, id have that as likely woodland maybe archaic around here. Is there a flute I’m not seeing or is it ground?

The flaking and certain manufacturing characteristics. In this case you can see a hint of an ear on one base corner. The other corner is missing due to either ancient manufacturing, old damage, or possibly new damage. Either way a person could argue that this may even fall in to the Stringtown variety. In 3 trips to this field we have 7 broken Paleo Lanceolate and Stemmed Lance pieces, a lot of early Archaic relics, but not much in the way later cultures. Again, this is just based off of 3 hunts :)

Cleaned up, dry pictures of both sides, with the base edges not in shadow wiould be helpful.

My first thought was that it is a String town Lance. A very common Paleo find in Ohio & nearby.

Some nice finds.

I like the knife. Very sweet.
