OK, here's a token for y'all...
Found it in Ridge Spring, SC, on vacation last year.
Looks to be 1870s to WW1 era, in my guesstimation, so I wouldn't think it's a Civil War sutler token. But it obviously has some connection to a military regiment. Post Exchange? Maybe Spanish-American War era?
I found a (later, ca. 1935) Green River Whiskey token nearby. I have the vague sense that both might have been part of some kid's "treasure" and were lost in the yard while playing, but that's just the imaginary picture I get. I was able to ID the Green River Whiskey piece but am still not sure of the story behind the octagonal 6th Infantry token.
Also found were an aluminum religious medal of some sort, a musketball, and a 1908 Indian cent, and some wheat cents.
The site was Southwood Manor, a circa 1918 brick plantation-style house that is built on the site of a much older antebellum plantation. My wife and I love to stay there- it is a B&B and the innkeepers graciously let me detect there. I have never yet had a B&B innkeeper refuse me permission to detect. It's a nice perk of being a paying guest at these places, which are much more fun than staying at hotels.
Here's the house.
Here's just half of the huge semicircular drive in front of the house.
We may go back there at the end of the month- if so, you can guess what I'll be doing!
