Relic Hunting
With the ''dead season'' of July to September I decided to go on a practice in the local park. I have to admit it's really not my usual hunting grounds as it was only my 3rd hunt in a public place. Went there with the intention of finding my very first gold object so dug every pull tab in the area. After 2,5 hours was ready to go home but got a high 75 signal on my Deus. Thought it was an other Toonie (Canadian 2 dollars coin) so decided to dig the last target. Was really surprised when this shiny beauty came out of the ground. It was still attached to a gold colored chain(that turned out to be plated and might explain the high signal).

The awesome part is my first gold turned out to be a 24 karat one. It seems to have an image of Buddha on the lotus. Really happy with this find. It's not big or old or a Spanish Dobloon but it's my very first gold item. Just wanted to share the moment with you.

P.S. I'm done with the parks. Don't know how some of you guys do it but I'm destroyed after only 2,5 hours (I'm used to 8 hours field or woods hunts). My knees and shoulder hurt like crazy from constant use of the digger. I really missed my shovel, that's for sure.

Thanks for the comments.

Thats a super find, congrats on a well deserved find!!!

Thank you.

Agree, I underestimated the effort park hunters put in their hobby. Always thought fields hunting was harder.

Oh my! No! I didn't intend to mean that one is any "harder" than the other. I've done both and for me, the fields are MUCH more difficult! It's just that park hunting tends to be "busier" as far as digging and neatness counts more. That can add up!

Congrats again!

Nice score! One step closer to your screen name, I should think.

Now the question is, after being so incredibly reinforced for your pull tab efforts (and with a trowel no less...I shudder) are you going to be able to resist going back?

Just so you know, if you end up doing coin roll hunting (what I affectionately think of as the crack smoking of our little universe of obsessive-compulsive hobbies) I'll spearhead an intervention. :laughing7:

I believe both have their difficulties. But as you said, park hunting is much more busy and I believe often less rewarding in terms of relics.

Yes, you're funny. I'll have to check if my insurance covers coin roll hunting therapy...oh yes I forgot, our socialist system covers pretty much everything. :tongue3:

Congrats on getting your first piece of gold, may you dig a Posie ring at one of your early sites in the future.

There's nothing like seeing gold in the turned soils and park/water hunters work for the spoils. But I'm with you totally on the amount of digging and what one has to do to get the gold-forget it! I hunted parks for decades and gold wasn't ever in my hunting goals. Too many tabs for what the return is, basically I'd rather dig 50 sq. nails than 10 tabs any day out in the fields.

Thank you. I sure hope to get one of those one day. And yes, same for me, at least square nails are old relics and they indicate better things might be not far.

Especially if the Rose heads are turning up, then I get really interested. :)
