What's new

OK YOU IDIOTS - YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!

I can understand why he did what he did. People who do not seek permission give us all a bad name. Here is what I would do.

I would tell him that saying "no one gets to hunt" will not discourage those who are not reputable. They will still come and dig out the treasures that can be found. Just forbidding it will not stop those who never sought to seek his permission in the first place, and he will likely lose anything of value in the ground. However, if he gives permission to reputable people to hunt, he can share in the treasures of the area. So instead of losing everything to those who do not care to ask permission, he will get value out of the finds. His choice, lose everything, or actually get value from the finds.

First - Truckinbutch - my condolences about your friend.

Secondly, maybe the "other" md-ers left a mess or something. I would ask my cousin what damage they caused (besides trespassing), and then, like someone said - offer to do it together - even if you go to some other place. Show him you are not looking for 'his' stuff - just any stuff.

Does he have a hobby that you don't care for? If so, maybe you can understand, a little anyway, that not all strokes are for all folks.

Talking is the best way.

How much contact have you had with this cousin before you asked him to md? Do you hang around together, or has it been 2 years since you talked to him before you wanted something? (which would be why you didn't know that he even owned it?)

Hey, in the end, its his choice. No one drives my car - not sisters, brothers - nobody but the hubby.

But - back to your real rant - if you ostracize him for not allowing you, or you decide to do it anyway - you become one of those people that you are ranting about.

But, you are right on. People who md and/or trespass, or leave holes, etc., make it really difficult for us md-ers who follow the rules.

Hook him up w/ a girlfriend, then go out w/ her. :laughing7: :laughing7:

Yep, it's hard for some of us, with "close" families, to understand how a cousin wouldn't allow you to hunt just because others did it without asking. Unless the property is watched all day, there will be those that continue to tresspass; just stopping you from hunting won't stop them. Nothing to start a family fued over but, if this were a voting situation, I'd be putting a check in the box next to "miser".
