Cute Bergie. I myself recognize the place as its about 15 miles from my location The way most of us start is in the library 1st. Not seingin' but researching. there's so many places that you need to decide whether ghost towns, civil war sites, or jst easy permission sites such as parks, etc. are your cup of tea. just let us know when you find a good one.

Stoney==Ebay happens to be a great place for research. Many old postcards and photos found by town/city name or state. Give it a shot.

bergie --yes e-bay can be good, also try sitting w/the old guys at the local donut/coffee shop. Boy can they talk!!! but you learn a lot if you listen.

Agree, some of my best leads come from old timers. Had one guy I called on the phone after reading about him and the day after I talked to him I tried calling back and no answer. Had a weird feeling about it. Next day I read in the paper he had passed away. He was a local hero type guy...

Yes, I know what you mean. Did some research several years back on that postcard, found an old U.S. calvary camp where about 2,500 soldiers did their summer encampment-had map with officer's, enlisted and mess tents, even their trash dump. Tried permission- told no that someone came in with shovels digging-farmer lost 3 head cattle due to broken legs. Guess that guy Nightstalker was there also.

Damn, that sucks.

Yeah it does. Can you imagine how much can be lost by 2500 soldiers w/nothing to do for 3 1/2 months. The other thing that sucks is that a message from the camp commander to Washington tells of dumping unused artillery shells in the local creek rather than taking them back with them. Of course, these soldiers also patrolled the Kansas/Oklahoma border before the Land Run.

Any chance the property comes under new ownership in the next few years? Does an old timer own it?

No. It's leased porperty owned by a soverign nation-Cherokee & Choctaws. Can't talk to them unless I want to invest in a tribal casino
