OK forum. I need someone that has knowledge about battle axes and horseshoes. I am not sure why these have been married for so long but they have been together for some time. The double headed axe is heavy and the length is 18" long. The shoe is 7 1/2" wide. It looks like it was on a shelf since it has a felt bottom. The base is wood. I am presuming that this axe is not original. If original, it would be rare. The shoe looks like one of those cleated work horse or draft horse shoes and that the cleats have been gone for some time. Does anyone know what's going on here? I would like to know. I am at the right place to find out. Thanks before hand. Bill

it looks like the head of a halberd (spear like weapon on a pole) but i am not familiar with a double headed style. it was a common weapon for knights, and often used by foot soldiers or mounted soldiers, perhahps that is the connection to the horseshoe.

Good thought. I thought maybe a flag pole topper but for what?

i dont thinks its extremely old, if I had to venture a guess, I would say that its from some type of masonic/fraternal group, and likely ceremonial in nature. Or from a reenactment group like reneassaince festival or SCA or something.
