Found at a mid 1800s house site. I'm guessing it's from the Civil War. Anybody know what it may have come off of and how old it is? Probably going to use electrolysis to clean it up. 20200322_163934.webp

IMO... what you've found is not a bayonet.

Not sure what it is.. perhaps a lightning spike or almost has an andiron look... but I would be willing to bet it is not a bayonet.

Perhaps a few closer pictures will help.
 

Plus I did a quick search JUST to check a few things...

I think it may be some "implement" / "tool" perhaps with wooden handle.
 

I don’t think it’s a bayonet as well. You’re hunting in the right area though. I see you’ve got yourself a parasol ring. There’s probably a coin or two in the area. Good luck!
 

Dang that's very disappointing. What I thought was the blade part is 4 sided, like that of a bayonet.
