I dug this deep near a very old abandoned house. When I shake it there is something inside but it doesn't ring like a bell should unless there is just soil stuck inside and keeping it from ringing or something. Also it has a little dent on the bottom. Maybe I'm wrong on the bell idea because usually any round bells I find have open slots in them for ringing. I put a 1927 penny I found on the same property in the picture just for scale. I just got permission to hunt this place but it is super grown in this time of year so I'm going to wait to go back in the spring. Any help and info about the bell would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

Not sure but looks like a button from a winter coat.

My first thought was button when I dug it. What's throwing me off is the rattle it has and it's big size. It seems real big in person for a button but it definitely could be one.

I agree with a button, as it has a snake skin (or similar) pattern, which fits better with apparel than bells. I find several varieties of which I find with a google search, but not yet a ball button. Anyway, perhaps a pebble made its way inside causing the rattle?
