I bet it is home made, I've been finding lots of hand forged tools, horse shoes, hinges ect.....

That glove is cool like early mad max man.

It very well could be a homemade blacksmith glove. I wear a welding glove on my left hand when I work metal. Tony

Very cool old glove.

Doubt it is for handling hot things though.

Rivets tend to conduct heat very well.

That glove is insane. No visible corrosion of the rivets, so maybe it's not too old, just worn? Early home-made steampunk? Whatever it is, it is begging to have an urban legend woven around it (halloween is coming) Very cool find.

The rivets are all rusted and pitted and some are missing. Maybe 1800s ufc gloves

Maybe someone was trying to improve on the old corn husking gloves that had a metal palm?

good lead nhbenz. I found a match for the glove (which you've probably seen) but it's simply labeled "steampunk" along with some actual cornhuskers. Can we post the whole url link thingy? If so I'll post it. (I can't figure out how to just post an image....as my brain has shrunk also)

Ha, I guess mad max was steam punk... I dunno. I'll try to post a link that nhbenz (who in future posts I'll refer to as "the smart chimp" or simply "the chimp" because it's easier to spell thean words with z's) might have been refering too which shows a match or close match for your glove. The link is a little vague about just what use this particular glove had (upper left photo) and kind of throws it in with the true corn huskers with the hooks. https://www.google.com/search?q=old...sy.com%2Fmarket%2Fprimitive_farm_tool;340;270

Steampunk is the word some " artsie crafty" person came up with to describe old mechanical iron that you hang on the wall and call art. I have all kinds of hit&miss, and steamengine parts, gears, wheels etc. I thought it was just a pile of rusty parts. An antique dealer came to the house and informed me that it was a nice collection of steampunk!!:laughing7:. Tony
What's a steampunk? Lol

I was intrigued with this thread and asked Michigan2box if I could make it the subject of a blog post. He kindly agreed … and here it is:

Shucking Gloves
… there are intriguing artefacts to be found over the pond, whether in Michigan or Manitoba. Finds from the beginning of the 20th century can be very interesting ... like this one, for example:

Looks like a weapon, but I'm going with a blacksmith who knew how he'd make his own improved glove for the job.
