✅ SOLVED Old Brass Tag Help

Hi All,

Just dug up this old brass tag in Will County, Illinois. Wondering if anyone identify it?

It reads "C.S. & W. Co. 595 Joliet." Obviously, Joliet is a city in Will County but wondering what was the purpose and time frame of this brass tag? Thanks in advance!

I think it could be a livestock / animal / vaccination tag. I’ve found some pretty old ones here in Virginia marked with various numbers and my county name.

Could also be a tool tag. We used tags very similar to these at VEPCO to check tools out of the tool room with.

My first thought was also, "tool tag", used things like that in Detroit factories in the 70's.
