I found it on an old homestead in mariposa. Thank you for telling me what it was. I had never seen anything like it before. How would you know if its real? It has zero identity markers on it

I can look at the construction and tell it is not a modern buckle, but to convenience yourself, do some comparisons of modern vs. vintage buckles on GOOGLE. Breezie

Because of the light construction I would say a Sash Buckle, and like Breezie says...Victorian, You were lucky to get a complete one
