I’d say you’re right that it’s a bullet….but it appears to be copper clad which means modern. Can you provide wts or measurements (diameter)

Hard to tell with the pics, but I see no rifling marks. If they are there, disregard what I’m about to say…..a 12 ga sabot slug is approx the same diameter as your found bullet. I’d assume that’s what it is.

I would agree, as it looks to me like a 12 ga. slug that has hit something fairly solid.

Now maybe it is a shotgun slug

9/16" = about .56". That's too small for a shotgun bore (it would be about a 26 guage) but as suggested could be a sabot, which is smaller than the bore. It appears to have hit something solid head-on.
