Found this button today, seems very old. Does anyone have any idea how old?
Thanks!!

What is the material on the back?

It all appears to be metal, rang up as a copper penny... It's 1" in diameter, about 1/8" thick and weighs in at 5.8 grams.

Its made of lead Pewter. I would say early-mid 1700s.
Nice!

Though its floral design points to Colonial era, disparity between front and back (missing back?) appearances recalls some kind of electrotype manufacture. ( thin cuprous metal shells encasing clay or iron core)
ive dug a lot of cast ccc's and electrotype coins and buttons around old toll bridges, the keepers were good at id'ing fakes, and would toss em into the drink.
nice find.
