Old Button, but what is it?

Well it had some gilding on it. I'd guess late 1800's? Hard to tell what was on it though.
 
Early 1800's flat button.

The makers mark is visible a little but if you can clean it to reveal the maker it would help narrow it down

That type of button is a civilian button and is called a flat button or coin button. The backmark had another word or two at the top. It could have have been anything though. If you can see any other letters and let us know we may be able to figure it out.

try giving it a bath if that is possible without ruining it.either way cool find
 
Looking at this again, it looks like the word after Gilt is Standard. If so the whole backmark is probably Treble Gilt Standard or Imperial Standard, Treble Gilt
 
Yep, early flat button. I'd say 1820's.
