This old compass is encased in a wooden box with a sliding lid. Label in box on bottom says Wilcox, Crittenden and Co., inc. Middletown, Conn. U.S.A. compass.webp

dug it up? found in antique store? traded a hobo a cigarette for it? .....what's the story?

Hey Jewelerguy , sorry about that . I found it in an old barn that is falling down. It was under a pile of rotted and fallen barn wood.

Sweet, nice save it would have ended up in a land fill.

cool. from what I can find on the net, it's a marine compass used in small boats. probably dates between the 1920's to the 1950's. others currently listed on ebay are listed between 100 to 200 bucks

Cool . Thanks for the research and info jewelerguy. Thanks to the others for the likes and comments as well.
