Well, with the weather cooling off I am trying to get my coil swinging fix satisfied while there is no snow, and the ground isn't frozen.
Hunted two long days over the weekend. Most of the time I stayed right at the old fairgrounds.

Last weekend I picked up 6 silvers in one weekend. This weekend I found one sweet little merc. I found some wheaties, of course.

Worked at the soccer fields with TomNWMI on Saturday morning. Getting started it was 37 degrees. Tom hunted the park when it was changed from a football field to soccer and baseball fields. Love the stories about finding lots and lots of late 1800 and early 1900 silver, IH pennies and V nickels spread out over the entire complex as the topsoil was spread back over the fields. He showed me the sweet Morgan silver dollar he found during the construction. I was impressed, and jealous.

In about 2 hours on the fields I found the one Merc dime. In great shape.

We moved on over to the old farmer's union hall site. Tom picked up a pair of wheaties, and I found one.

Later in the afternoon I went back to the soccer fields to give it another shot. I found an impressive John Quincy Adams! Sweet tone at about ten inches, and I see something silvery in the hole! Finding out I had a Cracker Jack Mystery Club token was priceless!

Sunday went back to the old fairgrounds with an old friend. We worked a part of the woods out in the back of the park where I had scored most of the silver I found last week. I had posted a while back that an older gentleman said the old Boy Scout Jamboree site was back in there. I has searched and searched the area where I was told they camped, and finally gave up. So I was a little surprised to find a Boy Scout neckerchief clasp where I have been hunting off and on for weeks!

Rounded out the day digging up a few bottles from an old dumpsite I happened on last weekend. ( I will post the strange ones on the bottle forum) Most of the bottles were ketchup and mustard bottles.

Certainly not the most productive weekend of mding I've had, but that cracker jack coin made it all worthwhile!

That's a pretty Merc! Some years ago, at a Boy Scout campsite, I found a neckerchief clasp identical to yours! I have to get back there sometime....lots of silver there, many, many Mercs. Nice finds!

Thank you Chatking, Seger, Gypsy, Indianhead, Captn, Silverfreak & Nick!

Did a little checking today:

The Boy Scout slide is from the 1940's only apparently.

The John Quincy Adams is from 1930 -34. Cracker Jack only made them as part of their club for the 4 years. They are collectable, and worth as much as all the silver I have found in the last month! (Not that that takes alot)

Along with the bottles I dug up I had a great weekend!

Nothing beats any type of find before the snow starts to fly and the ground freezes up. Great digs..
