Old fire sprinkler?

Hey all, I found this object which I presume to be an old fire sprinkler in a field near the footprint of some old structures that once existed, Can anyone confirm what it is and a possible time period? One thing I know is that what ever the building was it didn't appear in any aerial photos from 1953 - present

*UPDATE* I just noticed that it says CRANE on it (tue july 8 14)

I believe what you have is part of an old foot valve from a water well. Here's a photo of a modern one.
