Farms on the eastern end of Long Island had the benefit of being able to harvest seafood in addition to agricultural produce. I've found plenty of large net sinkers mostly used for hauling in migrating bass on the open ocean side. Interesting to see these much smaller lead sinkers from a farm along the inland bays of the fork. Ironically, I found the bow and arrow with heart motif jewelry right after speaking with a bow hunter. Nice encounter. He introduced himself, pointed out the area he was going to hunt, and I adjusted my detecting route accordingly.
The past few weeks I've been painstakingly covering a rolling forest that was once farmland. I can go days without finding much besides old nails, foundation stone piles from what were most likely farm-related as opposed to dwellings, and the ruts that lined field edges. I do have an 1830's map to guide me, a real treasure map since my best finds correlate with the map. I know others do\have done the same as me although I never encounter detectorists. I leave obvious sites that others must have hit. It's also frustrating when idiots during the past couple of decades dumped refuse on top of good sites. With waning daylight I went to one of these obvious sites to accommodate deer bow hunters and quickly found these objects and others including a set of large 1700's strap hinges for barn doors. Either those before me were less experienced detectorists, or the Nox 800 is that good. Looking forward to going back over the obvious to see what they missed.
