Since iam still froze in the temps are not to bad but the ground is covered still with rock hard snow i had to go down to my basement half of it is just very dry dirt the house was put here 117 years ago on top of a stone foundation from 4 blocks away to make room for a bigger highway sooooooo ! i figured i would try to MD in the dirt i came up with a lot of metal junk a few clad coins i really need a smaller coil my 10x12 sef is just to big anyway i did find a few inches down a old table spoon silver marked Gorham it has a anchor plus a cross it says Pat. '91 . theres a big L on the top front i think it means 1879 . ?

It sure does not look like plate its solid all i did was wash it off with warm water and a cloth , i asked the lady who used to own this house what the name of the original owners last name was she said Livingston L ?

wait a second.it has a cross hallmark after the anchor.according to the chart the cross means it was made in 1886.
OK i just looked at pics again.it appears there's copper or brass coloring on edges of handle? if thats the case..there is your answer.PLATED
if it was real sterling it would have the 3 symbols together on the right side of that chart stamped on back of handle.
There is only 2 symbols right and i cleaned it better i can see the copper base its plated but still a keeper Jim

I have an old spoon exactly like the one you found. It came from an old plantation in SC. I have trying to find more info about the spoon. I'd like to know its value and when it was made.

One more piece of history saved. Great find!!!!
