Today I found this object which looks like a bullet with lead. Not shallow but around 4" deep in the ground where 1800's stuff is typically found. The casing is thick, no primer or base lip. Diameter .63 inches by 1.284 inches long and weighs 1.136 oz. This is the second mystery bullet-like object I've found at the this site which dates back to the late 1600's. I've found everything from musket balls to modern shells here. tres129.webptres130.webp

This is the first one I found at this site with similar thick steel casing. Diameter .5190 inches by 1.1065 inches long weighing .967 oz.tres94.webptres95.webp

Any marks on the bottom? Nice!!! Congrats!!!

No marks or primers on either (the one with lead is the larger one to the left. It's as though these are the fired projectiles but they seem too heavy. Maybe something altogether different. tres131.webp

Sure does remind me of a pinfire round. Interesting.

The casing is thick and solid steel no firing pin could dent it. I'm wondering if these are black powder pre-Minie Ball rounds.

No steel projectiles used in pistols or long arms. I don't think they are bullets at all.

I'm wondering if they slipped into another sleeve. These were replaceable, a plumb weight came to mind.

I know it is not but the second one reminds me of part of a drill chuck. The drill bit would be inserted into it and as the chuck tightened down the four prongs would grip the bit. Maybe it is something along those lines but used in a different device?

Very interesting piece! :occasion14:
