could be a piece of quartz with the gold left in it and fashioned into a knob.....or NOT ???

So I'm guessing it's more likely your "NOT" in your opinion. Haha

What do you mean by "handle"? Is it a cane topper or something like that? Looks like gold to me!

Looks like a lamp finial? Can't tell from here if it's gold or not.........

No have two pair of them. Or 4 total came out of old shotgun house I flipped and made a walking out of one of the handles.
However they were old door handles of knobs. The brass on the handles were like 50ish style or year!
Where would I even take this to get tested or looked at professionally. Antique dealer or jewelry dealer?

I'd take it to a good jewelry store. Cool looking finds, you just never know....HH

Common sense leads me to think its unlikely doorknobs of this nature would be gold. Might be wrong, just my thoughts.

So where would I go have this looked at? What type of place?

I don't know where you live or what might be close to you but we have a university here with a geology department that is very helpful.

Either way, that looks really neat

Out here in Denver, around the turn of the century they made lots of items with gold still inside the quartz. I know they did the same thing in California during it's gold rush period.
I'm thinking it could be the real thing, but I've been wrong, many, many, times in the past.
Keep us posted!
Carl

I live in Louisville and looking for a smart place to take this to have looked at and checked out?

Very cool find you got there

Congratulation!!

Looking at the pictures for a while, it almost looks like its been fashioned with gold leaf (flakes) put into it.

If it is a natural occurring gold in quartz though, and the pieces are thicker, then you have a fair bit of money sitting there.

I'm sure there is a college or university there with a geology department. They could probably tell you what it is pretty quick.
