Didn’t get to dig much today since the speakers on my detector decided to crap out and the headphones were at home. But hubby dug up these things not far apart from each other. They were also found close to where we found the horseshoe and the harness thing we found yesterday. Thinking it’s possibly part of a bit with the mouth piece missing?

Ah ok. The bit rings were a little smaller then. I had a horse a long time ago that refused to take “modern” bits. He was only comfortable with the old style bits. But shoo that was 15+ years ago. Can’t remember the size too well lol

I like a gentle bit , but the horse's past and manner of breaking matters.... My happy easy keeper favorite horse long ago (And I shouldn't pick favorites probably) was bindertwine on a halter , or nothing inside the fence.. A snaffle outside the fence.

Draft horse bits were big ringed. Bigger than any bits I've ever used for sure..

lol I had my favorite too. A Welsh named Kid. I was about the only one who could ride him. He had bit people's legs and even decided to lay down a few times while people were riding. But he was always a charm with me. The picky one was a Welsh that was a retired barrel horse. I found out first hand how he could stop on a dime. Rolled off right over his head lol But I had a quarter horse too that didn't even need a bit. I go into the field, clip a lead rope to one side of the halter, tie the end to the other side, and jump on bareback. He was a dream too. Miss the good ole days lol I swear I'm living in the wrong era!

I love it when I find old horse bits, there's something very personal about these pieces.

May I suggest that you use headphones every time you hunt. the big iron items you've been posting are easy to hear without them but for coins and buttons you are likely to not hear them as the tone is softer.
then you factor in the sounds of the wind , leaves under foot or traffic and you'll miss out on the goodies.

LByles, we seem to find a lot of similar items. I found one ring just like that, the other day. I wasn't sure what it was, but thanks to your posting I know now. I don't have a phone that has internet so I am unsure how to post photos.

I love your enthusiasm.
