Are the rivets steel?Aluminum?brass? Handle wood?Plastic?Bakelite?

Can you read any inscription that is on the long blade end...right up next to the handle. Sometimes it will tell you something there...like, made in China or the knife maker itself.

Why does the knife have a miner on it? Is it because Jim Bowie had a silver mine?

i dont know gypsy ;D maybe so. i dont know if its a line of knifes for miners or what. i can not find anything about it.john

you have a jim bowie half congress knife made in the mid 1980's by the Carl schlieper knife company of germany. The handles are red bone. They made a commemorative type run of the knives with miners shields. I collect pocket knives (primarily german) and I caught this one right off.
