the end of a fluorescent tube (light), they're normally white in colour but that's due to the phosphor powder to emit white light. The hole in the end is probably where the contact pin would have been mounted.

I have worked with fluorescent bulbs and the glass is like paper this and this glass is thicker than a normal light bulb. Its probably a fuse like the others have said.
