Tuesday was cold but I decided to hunt down by the river at some construction on the levy here in middletown ohio.My xl pro whites detector sounded off as gold on this one.It appears to be brass and old.No markings on this but it appears to have a pattern on the front.Any opinions or guesses on what this is would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking and good luck hunting.

Oh, I know what that is......................................................what the heck is that thang? ;D It does look old and appears to be some sort of ornamentation or jewelry or ?? Off the subject, have you found any Armco tokens down there in Middletown?
Thanks, Steve

My hunch is that this piece is an old religious medallion from the 19th c.

Cool find. I think the intrigue of it is its best attribute. :)

I found one of identical size, style, and construction, except inside of the blank circle on the front was stamped "room 41".

If any debate heats up on this thread about the I.D., I will post a picture.

Consider the debate "heated." I would like a photo of your find, along with a U.S. Silver Dime dated 1948 for size reference.

:D

Looks like an ID/key tag blank, probably early 1900's, a stock item which could be stamped or engraved as desired— for instance, "Room 41" as on the one Plehbah found.

Could it be stamped with Saint Christopher, if desired?  ;D

Actually, a lot of them had stock designs: patriotic, religious, fraternal, etc. Oval ones were more common, but there were round, square/diamond, and shield shaped varieties, too.

Plehbah, I can't quite see the scale of your find--seeing as how it was a 1949 dime.

But I will say that something indeed strange and wonderful did in fact happen in Room 41 in the distant past.

I will start an establishment of ill-repute in my city, and call it "Room 41," and it will be known far and wide for its intrigue.
