It’s a “Phoenix button.”
What's the age though, Buck? I googled it and only found a pendant based on a British livery button. It looks old to me, but so does my reflection...
Fits with my best guess, its very similar to the Livery Buttons we find that were popular in the 1830's, if it had a back-mark of a well known Livery Button maker, that is what I would have gone with, but it's blank.Probably around 1800-1840. If it ends up being linked to the Haitians it would date 1807-1820. There is also some discussion about the buttons being acquired by Nathaniel Wyeth prior to 1832 and being distributed in the Oregon territory. And, research indicates that Ewing Young may have obtained stocks of Phoenix buttons introducing them into California in the mid to late 1830s.
