Old Military Button found

I found this? 6th regiment of foot Button?- from the war of 1812 , along an area near lake Erie with a? number of musket balls and some other buttons , also found a 12 pound cannon ball ? ......Seeker

Looks like a button from the British Army 6th (Royal Warwickshire) Regiment, c. 1855-81.

Looks like the 1812 version of the 6th Regiment of Foot (1st Warwickshire) enlistedman's button. Others have been found like it at Fort Erie where the 6th served during the siege of 1814.

Vonrall may indeed be right.

Interestingly, Parkyn's illustration of the earlier button shows the antelope facing in the opposite direction. Variant? Error?

Also, it is difficult to be sure, but the neck bump and diagonal line indicated in the photo below may be traces of the collar and chain which were added to the button's design around 1840. (They appeared on shoulder-belt plates somewhat earlier.)

Shown below as well, just as a matter of general interest, is a c. 1830's example of a button from this regiment.

Parklyn , should be used with great caution , written ovver 50 years ago it is loaded with errors . He did not have much access to what was being dug in the for the most part and relied on a very limited number of examples. Sadly there is no single good book on the topic.
