Old Newport Beach find

I found this in the sand at Newport Beach around 1985 with my Tesoro Golden Sabre Plus.
It has been in my garage ever since.
Does anyone have any idea what it might be? Looks like gold and feels like gold, but I have never tested it.

Looks like a trinket lost off a chain; I doubt it's gold, but you may never know until it's tested.
