As an example, a simple search for "Florida Shipwreck" starts with articles from 1866...
Look at the left side, articles by date...there is one from 1804...
1800-1809 (1)
1810-1819 (19)
1820-1829 (48)

"Having observed in the course of long experience, that several masters of vessels, who had the misfortune to be cast away on the Martyrs and the coast of Florida, ignorant of the existence of any settlement at Cape Florida, have attempted to proceed to the northward in their boats, deprived of every assistance ; I feel it incumbent upon me to inform such as may hereafter experience a like misfortune, that if they pass to the north side of Key Biscane, they will find the entrance of Boca Ratones, through which they can safely go with their boats, and they will see the houses in front, on the main land. In case of shipwreck to the northward of Boca Ratones, at the distance of two miles therefrom, they will perceive Mangroves thinly scattered, from thence the houses may be seen ; and in that situation, by making a signal with fire, or otherwise, they will obtain assistance. If it should happen to the southward of New River, they may proceed southwardy along the beach, where they will meet, every four miles, with posts fixed in the ground, on which is an inscription in English, French and Spanish, informing w here wells of fresh water have been purposely dug.

What a fun, interesting, and helpful site!

A plain text version of the scan is provided on the left hand side of the page - full of scan errors, but still useful.
