What would you expect to find in an old orphanage? It was an orphanage around 1950 or so. Now, it's a convent. I bowhunt on this property, but didn't know it was anything other than a convent. There is a stone foundation that looks weird. It's probably 15x15 square, but all four inside corners are rounded. It sits within 50 feet of a very small pond. On a different area, there is a concrete foundation that I just learned is an old inground pool. I don't think the two foundations are related. I can't imagine the orphans had too much money to lose, but if it was a catholic home for boys or something, maybe some rosaries, or silver crosses may be found. I also just learned that there is an old well somewhere on the property that was filled in years ago, so no one would fall in. I don't know yet if it was near the stone foundation.
I bought an MXT from James in Texas, and just ordered an Ace250 for my son's 16th birthday. Even though it's cold and frozen here, I'm chomping at the bit.

Ooooohhh, sounds kinda creepy! I would be chomping too. Even if you don't find old coins I'm sure you'll find some really cool stuff. Keep us posted on your finds.

Hey - once it warms up all us quiet corner hunters should get together (I'm from Thompson) I'm been an on and off lurker for a few years, only have a starter detector, and have only used that a few times, but I would be more then glad to go out with others and actually get the coil swinging!

Are you sure the pond isn't part of an old building itself? It could be from an old cellar, which has filled in with water. Either way, sounds like a fun place to detect.

Cpt_kirstov, sounds good. I'm only about 4 miles south of Quaddick.

Tavis, I don't think so, looks like a small pond. But.......there is a row of rocks going into it, maybe an old wall or foundation. Hmmmm, come on thaw.

Any evidence of an old creek going into and then out of it? If so, could be part of an old mill, or something like that. Maybe old power generator? The rocks/wall/foundation make me think its was more than just a pond.

I don't remember seeing any stream into or out of it. The deer use it to water so I look at it quite frequently while hunting. About 10 years ago, I remember seeing small bass in it. It dries up quite a bit in the summer though. Next time I'm there, I'll get some pics of the pond and the stone foundation. I think it was a swimming hole.
