A neighbor told me about an area where people used to picnic near the harbour from the 1920's-60's located about 15 minutes from my front door. Checked it out for about an hour after supper and found some silver coins and one american nickel 1937. I covered about 1/10th of the area and looking forward to tomorrow evening. Lots of interest though about what I was up to. I had permission from the owner who told me I could dig a mine shaft if I wanted to? Got to love the Cape Breton laid back attitude. Happy Hunting.

Those are some sweet finds!

Nice finds.. Hopefully that spot gives up some more finds.. HH

nice finds congrats HH

Wow, that's awesome. I was going to ask what the top coin was but luckily I finally got the zoomed image to load. I am anticipating your upcoming posts about this as it seems really cool. I'd love to find an area like this where I am, but it seems everything has been built over.

That is sweet enjoy your new spot.

You seem pretty casual about it. "found some silver coins". Do you have any idea how rare it is to dig a Silver Dollar in this country. For the most part they just weren't carried around. Most were kept, hoarded, or sometimes given as gifts, but again, rarely used as money.

I think you will do very well there. Maybe go when raining, won't have so many on-lookers.

Congrats on BIG Silver.

You're right Rick, back then a silver dollar was a lot of money. Nice find CaperBoy!!

I just want to know what that buff isn't ruined like all the other nickels people dig up.

Yeah man if that's laid back what are ya gonna find when you get serious!
Silver dollars are rare up north here, you did well

Hope you do as well with the other 90 percent of your site

I got a buddy over in Cheticamp who finds some good ole finds , you are in a great area for history

I remember as a kid growing up in the late 60's we could go to the Royal Bank and buy Silver dollars at par. We felt pretty good about having a few in our pockets. Only wished I saved them. I'm more into relics than coins and I still remember getting silver coins in my change so to me it's not a big deal although their nice to find with a detector. I'd trade 50 silver to find just one more Reale.

What a great Hunt! And more to come too.

A silver dollar is really special (I only know a few people who have found one, most find half dollars).

The buffalo is very pretty. I wish our soil was as kind to them as yours was.

Good luck in future hunts.

You won't find a spot like this unless you hunt fantasy land.

Awesome, nice Canadian silver... Extra Large silver too !! :occasion14:
Must be a lot more there... :notworthy:
Can I come with you ? :dontknow: ???
Keep @ it and HH !! :laughing7:

A silver dollar is a rare find with a metal detector ! Most never find one in a long career .
