Went door knocking this afternoon and got permission to another late 1800’s house that was an Inn in the old days. As usual, the owner said a friend from church had detected it before. So I prayed that he didn’t get everything. 🙏
I dug a cool old copper piece with a design on it that I think was a match safe. It had a small hinged lid and a loop that would have hung from a necklace. Unfortunately the owner snagged that relic from me.

I dug a small “Sterling” ring with a “M-H” markers mark. Any idea on this makers mark?

An old “P.O.D.” 2-piece post office button. Any idea on the age? I can make out the word “Superior” on the back. Can’t make out the other words.

A small magnifier made in Germany.

A dresser flower knob.

Also about 8 wheats and some 1950’s and 60’s nickels that the owner took.

They want me to detect their old cabin at a later date, I also got permission to detect their friends house (1920’s) down the road, and the friends early 1900’s rental house. 👍

Not too bad of an afternoon.
Thanks for looking,
MM

You must have good public relations to get so many permissions. Good for you! Nice finds.
I learned from the best. My dad could talk to anybody. I also have a binder about 4” thick of houses I’ve detected, relic display photos, references, and magazines I wrote stories for. It’s a BIG help. 👍

Did you use the loop that you found on the ring!! Nice finds really like the early Post office button!
That’s three little silver rings now that I’ve dug downtown and each of them had a break in them. 🥲
I’m going to try to upgrade to gold next time. lol.

Good hunt all the way around from giving the property owner a recovered item, acquiring more property permissions to hunt in the future and some nice found items to boot! Congrats on your hard to beat time!

All in all a good day. I was happy to find that POD button. 👍

Got to pitch yourself. I'm still learning the best ways to do it to a total stranger. I guess being a historic society member is helpful. Makes you look trustworthy and reputable and a saver of history . Maybe I should go that route

That will be a big plus. 👍
I also had a professional looking business card made up to hand out. It helps make the property owners more at ease.
