I had a lot of free time from work this week so I went detecting at one of my favorite sites south of Marion, IL. It was used as a picnic area from the late 40's-90's. I have hunted this site so many times yet I Always come home with a pouch full of keepers. I Love This Site! Finds are from two days of hunting which include a HUGE pile of clad coins, silver 1947 Rosie Dime, Dateless Buff Nickel, Sterling Silver Charm,10 Wheat Pennies, Cool junk ring, several buttons, various relics, play money, and a foreign coin.

Great hunt. How big is the area?
Its a pretty large area, I would estimate it at around 2 acres in size, maybe a bit bigger.

hey Digger that one button you have a pic of, the one that looks like 2 lions holding a shield. i found the same button in my yard here in Pennsylvania. any idea what it really is and how old it is?

Redsummit, that's cool you found the same button! I was also wondering how old the button was and what it was for. Most of my finds from this site are from the 40s-70's so I would date it in that range, I suppose it could be older. Anyone else have any ideas?

I've got a few clad coins from ball fields how do you guys clean them; do you use tumbler?

Yep, tumbler is an easy way to clean them. Just give them a quick wash and throw in a handful of clad with some really fine grain sand and they come out looking pretty good!

wow-looks like no end in site on the goodies! great finds Digger!

Dude thats some serious digging, hows your back?

That's just a fraction of what I dug, I didn't picture the 200 Plus pull tabs and can slaw I dug trying to find gold. My back was good, but my legs where extremely sore the next day. Well worth it though!

Hey Art,
Thanks. The site has always been really good to me, one of my favorite places to detect. I sent out the club newsletter the other day, hopefully you got it. Hopefully it dries out some so we can do some detecting next week.
