Old Rim Lock

Good Afternoon!
I found this piece last week and decided to do electrolysis on it this past weekend. It came out pretty good, I think it's an old rim lock?

Yep, an old rim lock. I dug one a while back and did a restore job on it. It came out good as well, despite being a chunk of concretion.

That really did the trick.
I never knew those were called rim locks. I've been calling them antique door locks. Ya learn something new here all the time.

Yep, an old rim lock. I dug one a while back and did a restore job on it. It came out good as well, despite being a chunk of concretion.

It's the first one I've dug and it's crazy how things can clean up pretty good.

Just in case. If you decide to do lock restorations, Grainger's sells flat spring steel to make replacement springs. Mixed sizes etc. Price is great considering I have repaired tons of locks, and made probably several sets of lock picks & still have half a package left. Making your own picks will save you $25 or $30 over buying from the locksmith supply.
