Last autumn I posted a ring I found near a cellar hole in MA. This is what it looked like:

Finally got around to cleaning it and it revealed an ENGRAVING on the inside!! Reads:

"J to L June 3-10"

ring-engrave-2.webp

ring-engrave-3.webp

I'm going to see if I can trace ownership of the nearby cellar hole to see if I can ID J or L, or both!

Would be cool if you were able to find one or both of them.

Nice find granthansen!

Betcha that baby has some nice history behind it. Congrat and HH!

Looks like a wedding band to me and it cleaned up quite well! Good luck on the research--should be interesting!

Thanks all... research (or rather, recruiting our "Massachusetts property agent" to do the research) starts tonight!

Nice find. Good luck.

That right there is proof that the brass rings were used as wedding bands. I've heard some say that they weren't, that wedding bands weren't in vogue during that time. GREAT piece there. Such a personal item.

Congrats!

Thanks! I admit it's one of those bittersweet finds. If it truly meant something to someone, I'd hate to think of them losing it. But then again, maybe L ditched it in a fury over J and he tossed it in disgust!

Haha. Yep, you never know!

I haven't been able to find any weddings on June 3, 1910 in Massachusetts. What's odd is there are a few on June 8, which was a Wednesday.

That's an awesome find.Hope ya can figure something out on it.good luck

I remember when you unearthed that ring and had little clue about it, particularly its composition. Shows that sometimes a good cleaning can represent a "find" in and of itself. Well done, my friend!

That's a great find Grant. Personalized items are always cool. Good luck with the ID.

That is a good find! I have found a few brass old bands but none were engraved.

I love vintage finds with potentially traceable personal connections like that. Nice job cleaning it! What method did you use?
