Great find! I love all those hand forged tools. I wonder how many strikes it took to make it?
 
What is this hammer made of? It looks like brass to me or is it just the pic?
In that case I don't think it's a prospector's hammer as it would have been made of iron or steel, most of them have a kind of a collar, too, not this one.
Size, dimensions and weight please?

It is 7 inches long and weights about 10 oz, it is forged iron, this is the best piece I have found to date. :hello2:
