Hi all Found this Old saint medallion this morning in Germany. Any idea on how old or which saint it is. Thanks Sal CM190113-101859003.webpCM190113-102011004.webpCM190113-102222006.webp

Probably mid-1800s

Nice find can't help on ID just know it looks very old

Definitely one of the older madaillions. Not as common as the 20thC. ones. You still can't call them rare or collectable so polishing the high spots to get more detail out is fine.

That's pretty cool! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:

I checked some online sources describing how saints have been depicted, but came up blank. I sent the images to a catholic priest friend to see if he knows who this might be. I’ll let you know what he says.

That is a museum piece wow that is freakin cool just the history of that amazing

Well I am going to use a bit of fantasy realms here. But in the pic he is carrying an axe. Only a few saints have the axe as their symbol and they are mostly English or have never been to Germany.

However, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trudpert looks really interesting.

Can't help on the ID, but it's a cool find, thanks for sharing!!! "D"

My priest friend came up empty offhand, but suggested looking at saints in the Lutheran church, as they’re big in Germany. Also, he said to focus on martyrs. The orientation of the axe suggests that this guy could be a martyr. He said they were frequently depicted with the item that they were martyred with, and the axe is pointed towards him, rather than away which would suggest using rather than receiving the edge.

Good luck. I googled and checked images for over an hour and came away empty.

Ok Thanks All for the help If I find some more info I will let you know

Nice!!! Congrats!!!
