I went back to the old high school the other day and spent 5 hours swingin the CZ21. I ended up with a nice variety of finds. 80 coins with a face value of $4.38, part of an old horseshoe, a Saint Jude’s pin, a civil war bullet, the top of a brass instrument valve, a thumb screw that looks like it goes to a marching band music holder (the marching band practiced on this field for many years), a token, some keys, a ring, a silver earring, an eaten up cross pendant, and 4 wheat pennies (3 1944 and 1 1957)
The civil war bullet was a new one for me. It looks like a .54 cal. Burnside to me, but I’m no expert. I have found hundreds of civil war bullets on the hillside opposite the school where they did their target practicing, but none of them are Burnsides. This one looks like a drop in decent shape. It measures .565 by .782 high and has a solid base. If some of you bullet folks out there could confirm my guess or correct me if I am wrong I would appreciate it.
The ring is a cheapy snake ring, but the earring is marked 925. It has some kind of coating that is flaking off. You can see tarnish spots where the coating is missing. I presume the coating was to prevent tarnish.
The token is really crusty and the crust is really hard. I did manage to clean it up enough to read. It says O.K. VENS COUPON on one side and 35054 on the other. If my research is right this was used mostly in gambling machines in Chicago in the 1940s and 50s.
So more interesting stuff pulled from the cold dark earth. Some worth money, some old, some interesting and all fun.
Stay warm out there (it has been getting cold here so the season of frozen fingers is upon us.)
Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
