piece of cut up rail about 13" inches long

anybody know what these numbers marked on the rail mean?

I don't know what the numbers represent but I know you worked hard getting that out of the ground. WTG!!!

It could be the #ID number of the section gang that layed the tracks down. HH Coinman66
 

that makes sense, my first thought was maybe it was a date, like May 1942

It could be Todd. I remember a section gang foreman told me once that the guage of the rail is stamped on there too, like they have 90lb rail, 110lb rail etc. Ill get back to you, it may take awhile but i will get you an answer. Coinman66
 

Mine's longer! I found this 3-1/2 ft section. It's only 2-1/4" wide at the top x 4" tall. Not sure if it's a smaller RR gauge or a piece of rail for something lighter like a trolley or a hand-cart track at a station. It was near a stone RR overpass. As Bongo noted, the other piece is my shop anvil. I have another length out in the barn. Handy stuff!
