Old ship planks ?

I found two old planks on the beach and was wondering if they may be from an old wooden ship. They are about 6'' thick, 10-12'' wide with iron or steel nails (Square w/round heads) that have what looks like stone or cement over some of the holes. Any input ?

Maybe a bench, or maybe part of an old pier. Could possibly be part of an old building as well. Is probably a leftover from a past hurricane...assuming you're near a coastline. Then again, there have been large enough storms in the Great Lakes to take out old piers and buildings also.

A close look at one of those nails, might shed some light on the situation.

To the best of my knowledge, handmade nails were NOT used in benches. 6" thick sounds odd for a bench also.

I don't know much about shipping building, or anything else for that matter. But, I know that those nails are old, and that they were "covered" with that white putty, to seal them. If it were a pier or building, I don't think it would have that feature. I know they used tar and pitch to seal wooden boats, as well as stuffing fibers into the seams, but I don't know what the white stuff could be.

As initially stated, I don't know much, but I know that I can NOT rule out this being a piece of an old boat.
