While the weather is nice, I often hit the flea market, antique shops and thrift stores on my bike. I found this at a little antique mall in a bowl with costume pieces all marked two and three dollars. I thought it looked silver and I misplaced my magnifier, but I can zoom in enough with the phone cam. It's marked with very tiny marks and I can see a star and a 91? something. From what I find it is most likely a piece made in Spain and should be a silver purity of .915.

Pretty cool little treasure for 3 dollars and change and I didn't ride home empty handed.

Very cool find. The treasure hunting by bicycle is even cooler though.

These are becoming harder to find... and are collected.

Well done.

Very nice. Yes, it's .915 silver with a Spanish assay mark. The five-pointed star was in use from 1934 until 1988. I can't make out the second mark, which will likely be a maker's mark and may give you a more precise date. Appears to be something followed by a crown and the digit '1'... but the picture is very blurred when enlarged.

Found my loupe. So indeed this other stamp looks like possibly a makers mark. It's not one I'm familiar with. EX (Crown maybe) 1

This style and technique in jewelry is one thats been passed down from antiquities. Sure wish I could witness these pieces being made two thousand years ago. Not sure the style is so in fashion today, but still it's a good example of vintage handmade silver jewelry of this type.

Not familiar to me either. I did a more in-depth check of leading makers but nothing similar came up.

Well it won't be the first jeweler to be lost in time and remain a mystery. My guess it was maybe made around the late 1940s to 1950s, based on the wear on the locking pin and just overall condition, but thats just a guess. My first impression was it would be a piece made in the first quarter of the 19th century, until the mark told otherwise. It just has an aged look to it.

Nice piece, congrats! :occasion14:
