Sean, Great find. Someone here will better i.d. it for you.
Be careful about posting any kind of map. There will be all sorts of guys crawling all over your map, looking for any kind of
matchup they can get....and you will go back to your site and find holes.....uncovered holes, and angry folks.
Do your homework.....post your finds......give a little info, type of site, etc,......but keep the maps at your house, for your
reference. Just a suggestion. (One current post talks about a newly found Civil War site scavanged by person/people.)
Have a great 2012 hunting.

WoW! That's one beautiful case! :o
It's in really great shape too! :hello2:

Congrats Sean and Merry Christmas to you!
Dave

Nice Find Sean! Cool old Silver ;D
Best wishes & merry christmas!

nice silver! was it some kind of watch fob?

glad you're still able to get out. The part I'm in is frozen...got to -2 last night.

Hi testing,
looks like a compact, mirror would be in that hole in middle section, HH

I was thinking it was a locket to hold a picture.

"Est." stands for estate and not a last name. It was common on older maps.

I now see the piece on yours for chain attachment,
I found a similar item that was silver plated, without this piece.
you are probably right, compact was a guess on my part.
Nice Silver

Ground is frozen here too. That's why I've been hitting the woods. In the winter it's usually easier to dig under cover than the open ground.

Doh!!

Now that you bring it up, I remember hearing that before.

I feel like an idiot LOL.

Nice Silver

I'm kicking myself for opening it. When I opened it the chain loop broke off >:(

I see the similarity. I can see why you would think mine is like it.

That's a really neat piece that you found. Any markings on it?

Ha, an easy mistake. I think I'll make a list of common phrases on old maps, and their meanings.

sweet old piece of silver dude! last few years we hunted cellar holes all winter long :headbang:

Thanks Sean, I don't think it had any markings, I'm not sure where the piece is now.
It has a small hinged compartment when you open the main case,
I thought this might have held a makeup cake.
now i'm thinking it may had a glass front, upper inside space for picture,
and inner compartment for lock of hair :icon_scratch:
I'll try to find it.....

That location (general area) is no secret. Infact it is probably one of the most obvious places to detect in the state.
