✅ SOLVED Old Sling Buckle?

I dug this buckle this morning at my favorite old site. Site dates from about 1770s - 1890s. Is this properly called a sling buckle? Any ideas on the age of it? My guess was mid 1800s. But I was hoping maybe older since it looks to be cast in one piece.

About 2 1/4" long on the straight side.

Never seen one like it, rounded on one side and square on the other. I'm posting so I can keep track and find out what the experts say.

no expert on buckles, but it appears to be a saddle girth buckle.

The cinch buckles I'm familiar with were all round, either with or without a tongue.
So I went and looked, and bingo, pippin, you're right, found one advertised.

Out west the people I was around called it a "cinch," back east, and English style of riding they call it a "girth." Means the same thing.
Looks to me like you solved it.

yes...cinch is how I normally describe this buckle...but I had a case of CRS, and the horsie person sitting next to me was from the north east...
she said it was a girth..i googled for a pic...there it was...

Hi I live very close to West Point ny and a property I was detecting had hosted the cont army while they were enroute to Philadelphia Pennsylvania . They were allowed to cook n eat their provisions on this property I found this same buckle under the roots of a very old giant tree in the front yard I took it to West Point museums and they said it was from themand said it was for their Ammo bag I can’t fins any Ammo bags that show it but I do think it’s from that time and probably from them here is the one I found —awesome find
