Old Whites Coinmaster 2DB Series 2

Having some issues with my old Whites Coin Master 2DB Series Detector. At times it works great and then has little depth and no discrimination. When it is working, air testing shows a quarter at about 5 inches and discrimination works great and when it is not working, air testing a quarter show about 1 1/2 inch and no discrimination ability.
I realize this is an older machine but I would love older detectors and would like to get the machine working again. Hopefully some day I can teach my grandson how to use an older Coin Master.

Sounds like a battery problem. If you are having the problem with a fresh battery check, or replace, the battery lead to the circuit board. The next possible problem might be the on/off switch not working properly. My thoughts.
