I found this little point while panning for gold some years back. I posted on one of the other boards back then, but don't think I ever made it onto this board. I know the tribe that lived in the area, and know the stone to be red jasper (pretty sure anyway), but I don't know anything at all about arrowheads. Any insights appreciated.

My Goodness, that's pretty. I've never seen one so......well, so red.

Thanks! I fell in love with it straight away. I was grinning from ear to ear for the rest of the day, and just kept looking at it.

Looks like a Rabbit Island (2000-200bp) type to me. I'm no expert on western types but I've studied them because I collect Columbia River gem points. They started as dart points that evolved into true arrowpoints. Nice little gemmer there.

Thanks so much to you both.

FelineBossyElf, I'll scan that site and see what I can find.

Th3rty7, when you say "Rabbit Island", does the type refer to a region as well?
