I went to the SC seeded club hunt today. I had a great time digging Silver, Indians etc but did not expect to find a 2000 year old Roman (?) coin. Apparently it had been planted 4 years ago during a previous club hunt but due to it's tiny size no one found it. It is really exciting to dig something that old. My club hunt count was as follows:

3=40% Kennedy Halves
21-Dimes (16 Rosie and 5 Merc)
7-Nickels (4 Buffalo and 3 V)
12-Indians
29 Wheaties
2 Musket Balls
2 Mini Balls
1 Ancient Coin (Any info on this coin will be appreciated)

I also found 1 Nickel, and 6 Zincolns all unplanted. I won a nice set of Garrett Headphones too. It was a great time.

Commemorative Coin of Constantine the Great (I), circa AD330, whats the reverse; Victory or Chariot & hand of God.

so 1700ish years old :icon_thumright:

Thanks Crusader for the info. I will check out the back and get back with you. It was hard to see.

Great looking Roman coin find JimDon! :notworthy:
I never knew the Roman Empire stretched as far as North Carolina?! :laughing7:

Ohhhh...false advertising. The 2000+ year old coin is only 1700ish. Only kidding.

Congrats on your finds...My club just ran their open beach hunt this past weekend. I love putting on the hunt but it is so much work that I'm glad it is over.

Postumous issue (337-346 AD) depending on reverse image. As CRU mentioned: Chariot and 'reaching' towards the hand of God. Other images could be veiled Constantine standing, Constantine in military dress, Aequitas standing and maybe other possibilties. Looking forward to seeing the reverse image.
Don.....

Here are better photos now that I have a new camera. The back is hard to see so any help you can give me on identifying this would be appreciated.
