What an absolute blast of a day with my boys and Monkeyboy. Hit the same spot as a few days ago looking for that two piece buckle but it never showed itself. As we were pulling into our spot a HUGE black bear busted out of the woods and across the yard. wasn't quite fast enough with the camera but got a few shots of it running away. Better away than running at us!!

We dug many bullets, gardners, sharps, three ringers and one with a star(washington arsenal). I found a springfield trigger guard busted and bent as well as some shrapnel and a broken brass dagger guard. My boys found many bullets, shrapnel and miscellaneous brass and iron. My 13 year old dug a nice eagle button.

But the day goes to my 11 year old who found a beautiful Rhode Island coat button, artillery chase chain and a bayonet scabbard tip with the leather still preserved inside!!! What a way to end the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Sounds and looks like a great hunt. I don't think I would have gotten out either after seeing the bear.......Matt

Looks like you all and an interesting and productive day. The RI is nice.

he looks like he is in quite a hurry to get to the woods.......guess that answers that age old question :dontknow:

Some awesome CW relics. That RI button is FANTASTIC!!! :o :icon_thumleft:
After seeing that bear, I'll never complain about our measly snakes again. ;D
Congrats,

Glad bear was running that way to, he look like a big boy! Beautiful buttons and congrats to your 11 year old. :headbang:

Thanks everyone. That bear shook us up a bit. Talked to the landowner and one week ago he had been in the bathroom and turned to see the bear staring at the window. We figured that bear was moving pretty fast and would be in the next county before long. It was a great hunt especially watching my son pull that button!!!

Nice job on the relics !

A scary start but looks like a lot of great finds! That button is in amazing condition! Is it rare?

nice finds!!!!
love that button and lot's of nice bullets
way to go

I like that button is really cool :icon_thumright:

hes more scared of you than you are of him * --thats the good part --just nosey and hungry most likely thats why hes in people areas --trash cans and dog food bowls left outside

if hes swatting the ground with his paw and making "huffing" barking type noise then you best be worried a bit --since that means -- he / she feels deeply threatened---* like you are challaging them over this turf and is saying back off or I"ll whip up on you ( thus they feel "they are in charge" or the "boss" of the area and is way badder than you are )--so long as they are running away , they feel you are "the dominent one" --thus no sweat your the "boss" of that area.
