Normally I wouldn’t post a spoon fragment but since the forum is slow, let’s do it. This is one of the few Colonial items found so far at a Colonial homestead permission that was added onto (and it seems regraded) in the 1900s. Most finds so far have been clustered around late 1800s-1940s with a sparse scattering of early 1800s (the eagle motif bridle rosette) and a large beautifully intact tombac button, so there’s more there, just a matter of getting to it–it may be too deep now.

I found this (I believe pewter) spoon on NYE. Not sure if it qualifies as a “rat-tail” type as handle is thin but squared off rather than round. Appears to have broken a century or more ago at the first handle decoration. Bowl is large and was probably flattened by a horse a century or more ago. It’s not disintegrating like many pewter implements of the day. Appears it could have been quite elegant in its day. Any additional information is greatly appreciated.
