sorry to start this fellas but i came to this site because i had no one else to bounce my maybes off of that knew anything about artifacts , what i post by no means is all the beautiful quality pieces that i find, and i really do appreciate the knowledge and incite from digger and sohio, but being questioned on my respect and "romancing" rocks into artifacts is extremely superficial but its cool , just had to get that out there sorry. but anyways those are some really beautiful pieces, but also feel like they were opportunist and if they needed something quick to complete a task then they would knock something out quick just the bare minimum to complete, is that not an artifact?, just a thought , got nothing but respect for yall

if you were talking about my pictures then you must look again because there is a pc of hematite there, a complete knife made from sandstone? there is a broken sandstone? tip, pc of pottery ... there is a picture of a couple drills and an adena point etc. is it that you are getting old?

I wasn't talking about yours. I can see some actual artifacts in your pictures. Getting old?? Naw, just more experienced. 47 years of collecting gives me a pretty good idea of what is and what isn't an artifact.

lol, steve!liked the pics of your collection by the way.thx for posting rivernomad but..........you are stretchn on the rocks, but hey thats how you learn.would like to see what else you have found at this site.

thank you creek thats what im here for, im gonna post my finds soon,

Hi Rivernomad44, Not sure I want to jump into this but here goes. Your first pic is of an ancient "Axe/Digger" Tool, (Lack of a better word, an Archaic/Paleo Tomahawk) but the word Tomahawk only refers to Native American (Woodland Indians). And that was probably not made by them but made by a Paleo Indian? or before. I have at least 7 of the same tools with only slight variations. Mine also have the wear grooves on them which I think represents where they were "tied" onto a wooden/bone handle. Your next pic is also an Archaic Tool, I've found about 4 of those too. The next pic after that is what I call a "Club"...found many of those, all different variations. The pic of the 2 green crescent shaped rocks with the "hook" end are also a type of crescent/scraper. These "Tools" are probably Way older than recent Woodlands time and are possibly, quite probably 12,500 yrs BP-6,000-8,000 yrs BP. The pic of the green crescent on the right (laying flat in your hand) clearly shows a Bear Face carved into the "Hook" part. I have 6 of those same bear faces on various "Hooked" "rocks"...Try to figure out at what Depth your finds are. I'm finding Loads of the Ancient Tools on our family farm. My Gr-Grandfather settled our farm in 1830 and has been farmed every single year for the past 182 years. The erosion that has taken place equates to approximately 6-10 feet and is why I'm finding only super old, Paleo tools in the fields. Of course finding "newer" Woodland finds in our woods and creek areas. By all means if one is only interested in the "pretty Native American" Tools, then go ahead and Kick those 12,000 year old rocks aside. While you're at it, be sure to kick aside any potential meteors and even rough diamonds. Just being a bit sarcastic now, but seriously, the more you learn whats under the ground, the more Cool things you're gonna find!...Love the pics and Thanks for sharing!!

I wouldn't go as far as to call that pc a tomahawk but does appear to have chopper use. Ancient crude axe would be a more proper name for it. But the experts "SVR" disagrees. :dontknow: cmon steve reavaluate this pc and admit your were wrong. your 47 year reputation of lithic study depends on it.

even amatures can see it was a "tomahawk"

i got 40 years of hunting artifacts those are just rocks. thats all thay are rocks
sohio i mite get kick out of here but don;t really care no more your a dam nut!

Well if you had 40 years of "hunting artifacts" you might notice the "possible" (and note throughout this post how I used the word possible) edge use/scraper/chopper/ or even crude hafted axe "use" on this pc., then maybe your the nut. This is the pc I was most refering to in this post and noone seemed to want to acknowledge this particular pc as a "possible" artifact. A utilized tool. You all are so certain to tell this person that a possible relic is not one. If I didn't state that I thought it was a pc then this person might have tossed it aside as nothing. Albeit may not be a framer its still something they could add to their collection or log with other pcs from a site to make an overview of the site. Get with it people !! Oh yeah and your right I'm a nut. :hello:View attachment 629406
